Apps Open letter to Devs: Lite versions for countries with no paid apps.

From my conversations with some Devs in the forums, it would seem that not all of you were aware that there are still countries with NO access to paid apps.

Many of you have created great apps that, by all accounts, are simply amazing, and everyone should have. The problem is, if they are paid apps, there are many of us who just can't get them. We can't even see them.

I am not suggesting that you should make all your apps free, I completely support your right and ability to make money from your apps (it takes hard work to make them), but perhaps you could consider making "Lite" versions of your apps? Many devs already do this, but the more the merrier. :-)

In Canada we are getting the run-around. Our main carrier (Rogers) blames HTC, HTC blames Google, and Google blames Rogers. I've emailed all of them. :-(

I have read many reviews of paid apps I'd love to try, and even buy, but i can't. I can't even try them. So please consider this an appeal for more "Lite" versions. Not only will you be helping out those among us with no other options, but it will help you to get better exposure for when we finally do (if ever) get access to paid apps.

Thank you.

Or sell them yourself from your website. I have bought 4 apps like this. By the time paid apps for Android arrives in Canada after passing through Google, HTC, Rogers, the CRTC and the Bilingualism committees, you'll already have made a bundle.

For those in countries without access to paid apps on Google's Market, you may want to check out a couple of alternative markets:

AndAppStore.com

SlideME.org (recently renamed to mobentoo.com)

Both have their own Market apps that you can install on your phone and both will also allow you to purchase directly from the web site.

We have several of our apps posted at both sites.

Cheers,
Steve
