Hello,

I organize my data with Google Drive between the mobile phone and various PCs.

Frequently visited websites I save as a URL so I can open it independently of the browser or PC. This works great with computers, but on the mobile phone (LG G4 6.0), URL files seem to be unknown.

How can I open such files with the mobile phone so follow the link to a website?

Since the PC does not always belong to me or other browsers are installed, I can not use the synchronization functions of the browser.
I have already tried the app "stuntzurl" from the store, it unfortunately opens the files as an editor and not as a browser (or am I doing something wrong here?)

Sincerely
df

PS: sorry for bad english :(

Hello and thanks for your reply!

JAy3001:
I just tried it. Unfortunately, it does not open a URL file. Also the option does not always appear (wrong Android version?). In the comments, it seems as if the app opens links in a browser with a different browser.

croddie:
That would actually be the simplest option. Since it is not always the same browser is present (Chrome, Firefox, IE, etc.) it is somewhat unwieldy.

Dannydet:
The bookmarks are designed for long-term use and the web pages are likely to change frequently. Therefore, a saved version of the website will probably not last long.

For a better understanding of the problem:

I keep all the information about Project A in a folder on Google Drive. These are PDFs, configuration files, ..., ..., and also links to websites with information. Thus, all information relating to project A is in one place. In total about 20 URLs per project.

On the PC is so very clear and fast.

I wrote 2 tiny apps just for this, one lets you open *.url files and launch a browser, the other creates *.url files from within a browser.
Try them out if you like, there are no ads or payments: "Toggelis Url Opener" and "Toggelis Bookmarker". Have fun.

Someone mentioned URLopener.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.htckenny.kenny.urlopen

It's working well for me. It has none of the usual Android-panders-to-idiot-millennials bullsht. It's a thoughtfully done tiny little app. YAY!!

Just open it, tap the Open File button, navigate to the .url file you want to open (it uses the same good navigating interface that File Mgr uses), and tap the .url's icon. The url then opens in your default browser.

I know this old but it seems to be the only thing I can find that even resembles my issue. it is like noone has encountered it or needs to do it. I often drag links on my desktop to folders. Sometimes I want the folders to be copied and pasted to my android Internal Storage or SD Card (Samsung Note 20+ and older types). Unfortunatly I just here the desktop make a notification sound that I cant define but must be saying "s*$#% you, you can't do this. The folder with the .urls never paste and if the folders contain both files and folders, it will stop pasting any other files or sub folders inside the folder being pasted once it cant paste a url. I look and there are never any URLs in the folder and it is missing the rest of the files and sub folders. I can remove the SD card and paste it and stick it back in the android, but I cant figure out why it woont let me paste them through the sync cable on my android or any other means, besides removing the SD card. Can someone explain this and is there a way to make it paste them? I can do other stuff like save links in chrome or add to the home screen, but I like android cuz it has a computer like file system, so I want o be able to do it the way I want to somehow.

I am using the URL Open App to navigate to it to open but still doesnt solve the copy paste issue onto an android device.

Thanks
