opening phone to home screen

Hi guys,

I hope I'm not being stupid or repetitive here.

When I swipe the first screen and the phone unlocks i see either Gmail or google browser. This is getting annoying having to close them every time before being able to get to anything else.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The phone usually opens to where you left it last. Is that not the case?

No, I tried locking it on different apps, made no difference.

Are you using a custom screen lock like widgetlocker? It would also help to know what device you have.

Its a brandnew samsung S3 with no apps that changed anything.
