Help Opening Subtitle on MX player

Hi Friends,
Does anyone know if you need an extra app to open subtitles on MX Player? The video file is MKV and after downloading the SRT file it says unsupported format or don´t have app to open the file. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance! :)
