Opening word and jpg files

New G4 user, can't open Word or jpg photos, the phone says "unable to display attachment" and it shows word docs as winmail.dat

Any help would be appreciated.
 
Are you trying to open them from an email? If you are you need to click download in the email this will give you the ability to open them.
 
No, attachments show up, and i have the option of hitting preview or save. hitting preview says unable to display attachment. If I save, and then go to the saved folder, and try to open from there I get the same message.
