I have a LG Optimus Showtime. When I have a voice mail nothing shows on the front of my phone telling me I have received a voice mail. How can I fix this? How do I remove unwanted icons from my screen?

I'll do my best to answer your second question. You can remove apps from your home screen by long pressing (hold your finger on it for a couple of seconds) and drag it to the trashcan that appears (usually accompanied by haptic feedback, buzz). Your first question, I got nuthin. Sorry
