!!! Orange UK Release Another Faulty Update !!!

Hi All !!!

On the latest Version of Kies (***************-121) there is an update from Orange

DO NOT install it !!

I have later learnt that it is 2.3.4 (PHONE JV3/CSC JV6- note there is no PDA number)

It bricked my phone and yet again i had to take it to a Samsung Service Centre for re-flashing (so i am now back on 2.2.1)

This update was also available for the Samsung technician to download and he also found out for himself that it does not work

Hopefully this means that a working version of Gingerbread for Orange may soon be available - if i get any more information i will post here.

DO NOT be tempted to install this update as you may not be able to 'fix' it afterwards and you may have to send (or take) your phone back to Samsung for a complete eeprom wipe and re-flash

Only just seen your post and I've already updated using this release now on 2.3.5.

Everything seems to be working fine and the phone seems a lot snappier.

One thing I've noticed which IIRC wasn't on 2.3.3 the homescreens/app pages now wrap round so you can swipe from the last to the first i.e. when yor on the last page and swipe left you go to the first page and the other way works as well.

This is very interesting !!!

When i updated the phone last Tuesday it died !!

I presume you used Kies ?

Is your phone Orange branded ?

When did you first install the update ?

Maybe i have some other problem with my phone as Samsung could not install it !!

Cheers

Yep, Orange branded.

Did update this morning just prior to my post using Keis.

Still seems more responsive and browsing seems much improved in terms of speed.

Have tested wireless, 3G data, GPS and all are working fine.

Had 2.2.3 previously and that was largely OK though did have odd delay in some cases. Been playing with phone since update and not seen this so far but its early days.

Will be interested to see if battery life is OK.

OK !!

Dunno why but last week the update killed my phone....
...maybe when you updated it was a working version !!!

I will check with Samsung for more information - i am now wary of using Kies !

Orange are a joke - Gingerbread should have been released by them months ago - i've had 2 updates which didn't work !!

Thanks for your info

Cheers

I know there was a lot of problems with the previous release of GB, 2.2.3. Some users had problem with data connection.

Personally the only oddity I found was that if the phone was restarted you had to select the launcher each time and I think thats still case with this release.

One very big positive, battery life was massively improved, so far looks like battery life is still as good though will need some time to make accurate assessment.

Whilst I agree Orange haven't been good at releasing updates other carriers haven't exacly been much better.
