Help Original dates of photos received

Is it possible to get the original date taken of photos that I have received via say WhatsApp?

If WhatsApp itself doesn't provide this then I'd think only if WhatsApp transmits exif data with the image (which I doubt, but you could always look - any half-decent image viewer or editor, at least on a computer, should be able to display exif data).

Otherwise you'll have to ask the sender.

Is EXIF data the information on the file properties on a pc?

In Windows? Yes it does, right-click, file properties.

Thanks. It looks WhatsApp is not retaining the original data but stamping it's own. Shame. Maybe this is a common problem. The Original dates and times are useful when looking back through holiday snaps from friends and family because not everyone posts or sends them out at the time they took them.

Whatsapp is probably stripping the EXIF metadata then, I know Wechat does the same.
