Turn on WiFi and go to the software updates menu. Check to see whether there is one available.
If there isn't, then there isn't. There's no way of forcing one, as android must be built for the phone, so you rely on the manufacturer/carrier to release the update.
The only alternative is to root the phone and install a custom ROM, if one exists for your phone.
