Overclocking GPU Voids Warranty?

Yes indeed as you will be thrashing the Chipset by overheating the substrate.
It is no different than buying a car and fitting Nitro to boost power.

I suspect it only matters if it goes wrong or if the vendor spots the mod.

If you have the eVGA get the eVGA OCing utility called Precision X - it also help you adjust fan speeds so that you can have them blowing much faster even at low temperature increases so that your card can be relatively safe. Of course, if you try to OC too much you take a risk of messing it up.

You can register and ask directly at EVGA Forums and see, but they don't frown upon OCing, as long as you don't fry your card.
