Help Pairing device with PC

I'm stuck. My PC does not recognize the S5 when tethered via a USB port. Nor can I get the phone to recognize the PC when I attempt to transfer files (images for now) from the phone to the PC by Wi-Fi. Here's method #1 I'm clicking on an image>from the menu clicking on 'Share'>Wi-Fi Direct. No devices are found after a protracted scan. Method #2: Connected the phone's USB charger cable to my PC and phone. I then pull down the notification screen. The "Connected as a media device" is 'missing'. Thanks for any assistance.

on your PC, I am going to 'assume' Windows format here, but the idea is the same for any OS.

  1. You must first have it Password protected
  2. then you must set up a Shared Folder
  3. You must have a WiFi that has a Password for security.

I am using ASUS File Manager and doing the above works every time....
when it scans, it will find 3 laptops and 2 cellphones on my WiFi network.

Once I log into my Desktop PC, and navigate to the desired folder, just tap "OK" and it transfers files to the PC.

Next time, I just tap "Copy to:" and then "Previous Network folder" and it brings up the Desktop immediately.
you have to navigate to the desired folder each time... for me that is a plus....
