Palm contacts -> Google

I have thousands (literally) of contacts in the Palm and need to move them to Google to have them on the G1. I sync with Palm Desktop currently, but *could* sync to Outlook 2003 if that is a required step to get to Google.

Any ideas how to accomplish this?

There are apps you can purchase which will do this for you.

I did an export to CSV, then import into Google, and manual clean up, but I only had a few hundred contacts, not a few thousand.

Do you have a gmail account? If not, sign up. You can sync them to your gmail account and then they will sync right back to your new android phone.

I needed to do the same. Hotsync with Palm Desktop, then you can use Palm Desktop to export all your contacts to CSV, and I believe you can import CSV files into Google Contacts if you go to Settings in your google account.

If not, there is an intermediate step in which you can import CSV into Windows Address Book format, then somehow export Windows Address contacts into Google Contacts - I forgot exactly how to do this step but I do recall using this method to get my Palm contacts into Google contacts.

Instructs for Palm Desktop -> Windows Address:
Export Address Book from Palm Desktop

  1. In Palm Desktop, click Address.
  2. Click File, and then click Export.
  3. In the File Name box, type Contacts.
  4. In the Export type list, click Comma Separated Values.
  5. Next to Range, click All , and then click Export.
  6. In the Specify Export Fields dialog box, click OK two times.

    The Contacts.csv file is saved in the My Documents folder.
Hope this helps a little.
