Root Paranoid Android & PIE

I have never used a paranoid android rom, but I am very curious about trying it out now that I read about PIE in this article Paranoid Android's PIE Navigation System Is Almost Out Of The Oven, And It Smells Fantastic [Video]
When I have time I'll try it out, but until then I was wondering if anyone can give me some answers to ease my curiosity.

I am guessing the PIE navigation system only works with paranoid android rom.
Does this system eliminate the 1-2 cm of on screen buttons? I never minded the small notification bar at the top, but having that bar plus the button bar at the bottom takes up almost an inch of screen real estate that isn't being used for most games or videos. This kind of bothered me when I first started using the nexus 7.

I read about being able to choose phoneui or tabletui for apps, and being able to change dpi without rebooting. Are there any other cool features of paranoid android that other roms don't have?

i read somewhere the CM was going to start integrating PIE into their stuff too. honestly tho, i'm not a big fan of PIE. i tried it out for a good month and it just seemed buggy. the one good thing i liked about it, was that you couldn't accidentally hit back or home.

so to enable it, you have to first set Full Screen Desktop. this removes both the top and bottom bars. then you have to go to Settings, and enable PIE.

for me, it seemed like an extra step to go Back for example. because first you had to trigger PIE. and if it didn't trigger, then you have to try again. and then if you drag just a little bit off, you have to try again.

as for the PhoneUI and TabletUI, i never really messed around with this. i did run PA on my phone (Galaxy S3) for a while, and i did config a few apps to tablet UI so i can see more on the screen.

PIE is in most CM-based roms now. I'm on Nexus Evolution and PIE is included, but I don't think it's more than a gimmick for me. I'm sure usage will vary from user to user. For example, I have Evolution on both my Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7, and on my GNex, I don't use PIE because as mrhomie pointed out, there's just a bunch of extra steps. However, I have my N7 mounted in my Scion's dash, and since the nav bar is cut off at the bottom and I don't have access to the buttons easily, I decided to get rid of the bar and use PIE instead so it triggers from the sides, and it works like a charm in that sense.

Thanks for the input, I am curious enough that I think I will try out PA and see if PIE is implemented well/smoother since it was initially released.

I find the Pie implementation on PA to be easier to use and more responsive. I've gotten used to it fairly quickly. Of course, whenever someone else picks up my tablet, it confuses the hell out of them. :-)

I just flashed 3.15 and I am liking PIE, switching from regular to full screen (PIE mode) was quick and easy. I really like the extra screen real estate with pie mode especially for games.

that was the only thing i liked about PIE, was when you're gaming. i had a habit of going into Full Screen mode before launching a game, and returning back to normal outside of gaming.

and i forgot to mention, i was using PA 3.0, so it is most likely better now.
