Root Partion Size and other things

Hello

I am trying to improve my wifes Galaxy Ace. I have successfully rooted it but done nothing more.

I have downloaded the mini tool device and found the user guide posted here forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1476121

I want to know

- what size should the partions be?
- should they both be FAT32 or should one be a different format?

I have read something about ROMS and things but I don't really want to fiddle around with too many bits to be honest so really wanted to partion the card and get the phone to "see" this the simplest way possible.

I'm not too fussed about the phone being lightening quick just want my wife to have a bit more storage as it has been rejecting texts etc due to low storage.

Any simple steps appreciated.

According to the guide stock kernel can support FAT32, and since all you have done is root the phone, you are still running a stock firmware with the stock kernel. So you can create the second partition as FAT32.

As for the size, it depends on your needs and your card size. I use an 8gb class 6 card and i have a 500mb second partition. Its good enough for my needs. I have over 50 apps.

Thanks for that.

I have 16gb card so make primary 15gb and secondary 1gb? Both FAT32?

How is best way to then make the phone see the space on the card?

Sorry I'm being a bit thick now and am trying hard to follow the guide.

I have partioned the card fine.

I have downloaded the Link2SD.apk file onto my computer but assume I need to get this onto the phone before I then insert the partioned SD card into the phone and follow the remainder of the guide.

How do I do this bit?

Also when all done I don't want to be having to do lots of maintenance, scripts etc on the phone or mess with the ROM as I don't really understand this so best not fiddle.

It does not matter if the sd card is in or out of the phone when you push the app into the system. All you have to do is push the link2sd app into the system using root explorer(or any similar app), reboot the phone so that the app can get installed. Then you need to set the app to create a mount script so that your sd card partition can be recognized to be used as internal memory. You are not required to deal with the script, just select the format of the partition and the things you want to move to it, the app will do its job. Its quite simple and the guide has explained it with pictures. Its a really good and easy to follow guide.

As far as maintenance is concerned, using link2sd might not be the best idea, the best idea would be using scripts directly, like cronmod int2ext scripts. They are pre-configured for a particular objective and it cannot be altered. Just push the script into the system and reboot. You can literally forget about having a low memory. Requires no maintenance whatsoever.
But the problem for you is that it requires init.d capable rom, which the stock rom you are running is not. Most root users use custom roms which have init.d capability and can easily employ this method, its much more easier to implement and requires no attention afterwards.
For now you are stuck with link2sd, so read the guide and follow the instructions, its very easy to use.
