Lurker
So while I was deleting some bloatware, I got carried away and deleted a file called com.android.inputmethod.latin.apk. Every 2 seconds, there's a popup that says "The application Android keyboard (process com.android.inputmethod.latin) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again," is seriously annoying me. I believe I also deleted the file that pertains to the android market. Something like... com.android.vending.apk. Anyhow, if I could get the original files for my PCD venture, that would be great.

just download a copy of the stock rom. u will find the files u need in there.

Hi Dracable,

So I downloaded the PCD Venture's stock. So... What next? I originally copied some files (like vending.apk and LatinIME.apk) and moved them to my SD's download... But it's not working. Like the same message shows. And I can't access my android market... Help? Also, any possible way to delete the ID pack icon and add a different icon onto the dashboard of the home screen? I rooted my phone but I can't seem to delete some stuff from media, something about how the delete failed and I don't have permission to do that?

ok, well, first off, u need to extract the apps u need from the stock rom zip. look in the system/app folder of the rom. copy those files to ur sd card, and then locate the files and install them just as u would any other apk file.

OK, the files have been extracted, I added them onto my sd, click on them, installed them but then there's still the popup and I can't use android market. Plan B?

honestly, i just suggest flashing a new rom. it would be much, much easier than going thru it piece by piece. besides, most of the roms on here have all the bloat removed already.

... Ok. Uhhh so like... Rom is the house of where the .apks that a phone has resides? ... Give me the rom?

no, there are a bunch of roms available in our forum. they come in .zip format. u need to read the recovery thread, and flash cwm recovery if u havent done so yet. then u download the rom u want, put it on ur sd card, and flash it thru cwm recovery. it basically flashes a whole new custom firmware to your phone.

and for future reference, u should never start deleting system apps without a nandroid or titanium backup done before hand.. ;-)

Ah, yes, please take the condescending tone with me, I'll never learn! ... Maybe I will. Okay XD. So let's think, I got to go to the recovery thread, and get like.. Flash cwm? It's an apk, right? And once I get that, then I can download a rom, and open it through the flash cwm? ... Did I get that right? *sighs* ...

okay, if you just want to get the apk's you need. download stock rom 2 then navigate on your computer(i hope you have one, if not that's cool to) to the folder which has the apk's you are missing. move just those apk's to your phone sd card, and then move those to your phone with a file manager.
otherwise, you can do the same, but you would need a different file manager to open the zip i believe.

with those specific apk's you may no need to move them, and you could just try installing them, BUT i would try just moving them to the appropriate folder on your phone (the same folder placement as in the stock rom zip) then reboot. if same problem exists, try to navigate to those same files(now on your phone) and install them like you would any apk by enabling the setting it will ask you to.

if im out in left field with this one, someone let me know, and ill edit for clarification.
that stock rom 2 is courtesy of dracable via the stock rom thread started by Leslie-ann

and, as for flashing a new rom: visit clockwork recovery mod this thread to learn how to install clockwork mod recovery
then from there its as easy as
1. finding one you like and downloading it onto your sd card
2. loading into clockwork mod recovery
3. clear all data, this includes system folder/data folder/dalvik cache/cache
4. choosing install update from zip and pick the zip you downloaded for your new rom.
letting it install.
5. reboot system.
this make take sometime depending on how you install CWM and also your first boot will take significantly longer to boot up then any there after(it always does for me anyhow) dont give up and just let it go...
any questions you can reply here and we will try to help you thru them.

*disclaimer* IF you DONT use CWM recovery one way or another and try to use something like "rom manager" worst case scenario you will brick you phone beyond repair, best case it wont work and you will have to do our method anyhow.

follow varen's instructions. they r good. although, i dont think throwing the system apps in place and rebooting will take care of it. installing them should work just fine tho. and no, cwm recovery is not an app, it is an image of ur recovery partition that needs to b flashed to ur phone via adb/fastboot. and i wasnt taking a condesenting tone with u, lot of people dont kno to do a backup before they start modding stuff. it should always be step number 1 tho before u change anything. feel free to ask questions if u need help!

that's why i said, throw em in there reboot and see, and if not...try installing them from that location...alot of times, its not a typical apk as we know it, its just apk extension.
sorta like a system file with settings and and different stuff. but its not really executable. a dependency if you will.
but that's just my expierience with linux as a whole including some in android.

gotcha. well, i kno that latinime can be fixed by installing for sure. not sure about the others then. theres a few i ran across when debugging roms, and installing em worked fine for me, so i was just speaking from personal experience. more than likely, the vending app is an extention tho, like u said. good info varen!

If u wanna reinstall a system app you need to put them in the right folder (on the phone) then change the properties of the apk before installing em. reboot & they should work/ latinime is ur android kb. I recommend a different kb altogether (Hackers Keyboard)

TT^TT Ok, let's get this straight... I should either do one of these two options.

1) Download individual .apk(s) files that I need, move them to the original files on the pcd venture.
Did this, didn't work, said installed but didn't because there were other problems...? Popups. Um, wont let me move to original place either, says something about how this action cannot be done or file too big, failed. Stuff like that.

2) Download Clock Work Mod Recovery...? Then download wanted Rom for the process.
I did download CWM recovery, it's am img? And then there's another file that the forum told me to download, flash_image...? http://androidforums.com/venture-al...very-cwm-virgin-mobile-venture-6-0-1-2-a.html I'm confused. I don't really know what next to do---download a rom? Do I need to use the cwm recovery--click on it? my phone's not reading it. Is it suppose to?

Yes, I have a laptop.

you need to read though the ENTIRE recovery thread before trying anything. almost every question u could possibly ask about flashing recovery has been answered in there. its a process of getting adb/fastboot set up on your PC (which allows your PC communicate with your android, to put it simply), and using it to write that image file you downloaded to the recovery partition on your phone. after that, you will be able to learn how to flash roms. recovery is the hard part. flashing roms is easy. :-)

Yea, there are TO methods listed in that thread. The hard way that everyone here says u need to know which works 100% & the VERY easy way which is frowned upon by some but works 100% also. Scour that thread & you'll find a way that you can manage.

Recovery is the hard part. flashing roms is easy. :-)

**CORRECTION
Recovery doesn't HAVE to be hard, just depends on how you wanna go about it. If you wanna have a bigger knowledge about the android system in general I'd follow the steps on the first page of the thread but if you just wanna get it done w/o learning I'd recommend the instructions on page 3 of the same thread.

All up to you...

although, people on here have been having issues flashing roms thru recovery. i would suggest to stick to the tride and true adb/fastboot method. who knows, maybe the people who r having issues with flashing roms were the ones who used the flasher utility to install recovery. long story short, the flasher utility is NOT supported for this phone and COULD cause damage. it MAY work, but it also MAY cause corruption. hard to tell the source of the corruption, but EVERY phone running android is ADB compatible that i know of, unless there r a few oddball exceptions that i dont know about.

I've never had issues with the utility. Ive flashed multiple roms w/NO corruption or problems... ur just jealous cuz u didn't find out about it urself :p

im in no way jealous, just trying to help people learn an essential tool. id b glad to help anyone learn it. ive offered to teach u before myself, and your response was "im way too lazy to learn adb". not trying to cause drama here, but i dont wanna promote laziness when we need people to help push this phone further with development. if i remember right, u had the status 7 errors before urself, didnt u? people r getting corruption in their recoveries. better safe than sorry.

sorry, i must have been mistaken. i thought u got errors in cwm a long time ago while trying to flash certain roms. and also, please dont make "corrections" to my posts. u can post ur opinion without making "corrections" to mine.
