This has been a perennial annoyance for me for a long time with the Android environment, even from as far as my first exposures back with gingerbread.
Basically, I never understood why they had separate volume levels for certain events, but then couldn't break it down further and have volume levels separated on an app level.
I know that this isn't available by default on iOS because it honestly treats everything under a single volume level. Somehow, that doesn't bug me nearly as much, because on there, the more recent models have a hardware mute/silence/vibrate toggle so that stuff is put on silent until you are ready for them, and you could turn it all back on with a single switch.
On android though, it feels like it teases granular volume control with the different modes of volumes... but you still have only one way to control the volume without going into the settings. Further, what you think you're adjusting when using the phone's volume rocker, is almost never what you want to actually adjust.
I guess it irks me because even as far back as Vista, Microsoft was able to have separate volume controls per program... and considering how Google wants Android to be treated as a sophisticated OS, why is it that this is not possible? Why are there no add-on apps either from Google or by third parties to have this level of control?
