Help Personal ringtones no longer work plz advise

Hi

On my S3 i was happy to be able to assign a personal mp3/ring tone
for each person in my list , personalized to each person when they
called .But was disappointed to find they dont work anymore when i
had to cancel my caller id when cutting back expenses .

i remember my old slide LG would still show id(but no ringtone) when
someone called from my contact list . i was anticipating a android
phone would do this , at least and more .

i only want/afford to accept calls from people in my contact list
Ie i picked up a cell call recently that cost me 11 dollars LoL

I also am happy i can still assign a txt notice ringtone , but can i
not assign a different tone for each person who txts me ?

What may seem nit picky to some , seems a weakness of this
particular phone/android

Can i make it work the way i want ? i thought freedom was what
android was all about . Yes android is great ,thats why im sure
ive just missed how to set this up

Without your phone knowing what # is calling it would not have any way of knowing which ringtone to play.

i thought if i had a contact list on my cell with persons names and
numbers ,when a call came into the cell from one of those numbers
it would be recognized since ive assigned that number in my list


i remember my old slide LG working this way ,when i got calls outside
my list it would be unknown ,from my list whatever i called that person
would show in display when they called. i didnt subscribe to any caller
id either

As an aside i heard an arguement in court over this assignment of
names to numbers in cells . A person stood charged with harrassing
calls from a cell phone alleged to be theirs because their accuser
showed their name in their display attached to that number , but
it was argued any name can be assigned to any number randomly
so the accusers point was squashed . Sorry it has nowt to do with
this thread

Ooopz an edit i forgot to add . If a ringtone wont play , tho ive assigned one to
that number , i should at least get an id ? I add this since my LG scenario had no
ringtone , but yes id number of person calling
