Help phantom message

I have a galaxy s5, t mobile. My friend said I sent her the message "I need something? " last night. The message did not show on my end. she sent me a screen shot so I know it's true. I thought maybe a virus, did a scan with lookout premium and nothing showed up. It's a refurbished phone, I've had it about 2 months. I've never sent that message to her and I'm fairly sure I've never sent it to ANYONE period. Any ideas?

Might not be a virus/malware, but do you have any apps installed which are allowed to send SMS on your behalf (you'll need to check their permissions).

I think lookout can do it for you? I know one of the AV/Security apps can.

Here are the apps with access to my messages, none seem like a threat? At around the same time my phone also sent 3 repeat messages to another friend. It's the same message I had sent her earlier in the day (she didn't receive it then) but it only shows up once (the original time I sent it) on my phone.

Ok this is the log so far, only texts I've sent/received are the ones from nick/myphone all others I didn't send and do not show on my phone.

No I highly doubt anyone I know would do that, that's why it's so weird. And it's sending out so many messages, I had no idea, thank you for telling me about the sms tracker. I just reset my phone so I'm hoping that takes care of it.

If it's malware, how do I get rid of it if it's not showing up on lookout? And would it still be there after I reset my phone?
I'm suggesting that the malware may be on their end, reading you as a contact and showing the message from you.

Are they on Android? If so, have them try the same monitor app you did.

Could someone have your Google password and is using a Google service or similar to pull this stunt?

Change your Gmail password, run your phone in safe mode for a while.

Compare notes with your friend.

Thanks, my friend has an iphone, she scanned her phone and it's clean. I had my husband scan his since I text him a lot, his is clean too. But he just downloaded sms tracker and it's showing a bunch of mystery texts too so now I'm wondering if we both have something weird going on, or is this just the sms app malfunctioning? Does everyone's phone do this? My husband thinks its apps updating info or communicating or something. It's just getting stranger.
