Phone calling App for Lenovo A3000-h?

Paladax

Hi there,

I recently purchased a Lenovo Ideapad A3000-H. Nice little piece of kit except I see that the Asian market models have the ability to make and receive phone calls on the device.

I did some research online and found that there is an unofficial firmware update you can do to allow this, however this then invalidates your warranty.

I called up Lenovo UK and they told me that the feature was there, but that they just don't have an app for it in the european market versions of this. But that I could go and download an app that would allow this. They said they didn't know of any apps themselves though, but there was sure to be some out there.

I have had a look around but so far all I can find is VOIP app's that you have to pay to get credit to be able to make phone calls.

So I guess my question to you is this. Are there any apps out there that allow my tablet to make voice phone calls to other normal landlines/mobiles, preferably via my allotted contract minutes on my SIM (the device has 2 X sim slots and therefore this would be the best option as they have business contracts on the SIMS). Or if not that, then at least for free over VOIP without having to pay for credit within the app itself?

Thanks in advance for any advise

Hi, thanks for coming back to me.

No. Tried Rocketdial but it said it was not compatible with the Lenovo A3000. Any other examples?

I think the base phone.apk itself is missing from your firmware, which is why simple dial pads won't work. You need to flash a different firmware.

Yea, I found that firmware flash online, but if I do that it will invalidate the warrentee then no?

I'm just curious because when I called up Lenovo UK they said that I didn't need to update the firmware to enable me to make phone calls. I just needed an App that would allow it.

I have several other tablets besides my a3000. I plan on trying the various phone apk's and their data from the other tablets an the a3000 to see if one of them works. Will post back here and share any knowledge on my experiment with modding the standard os via root in some shortcut fashion.
