Help Phone Causing Slow Home Internet?

vazdrae

Lurker
My home network has been extremely slow. (Getting super high Ping as well 800+) And I wasn't able to figure it out. Until last night i was checking all things connected to the router. The last two were my laptop and my Samsung Galaxy S3 (USCC). I turned the wifif toggle off on my GS3. Then i ran a speedtest and the ping was down to the normal 50, and was getting my normal download speeds. I turned wifi back on on my GS3, and ping shot to 900, and download/upload speeds were crawling again.. Turned it off again, and back to normal. What would be causing this on my pretty new phone? I downloaded the Bandwidth Monitor app, and on wifi the top one various, but still doesn't show anything to big. Currently it shows the Samsung Account top with: 17.82KB recived and 4.58K sent. Nothing big. I don't get it.

Welcome Vazdrae, to Android Forums!:)

I have moved this thread into the forum for the US version of the SGS3, as it had originally been located in the less frequented Australian version of the SGS3 forum.
I think you will have better luck finding answers for your phone issues here.:)

lemme guess. do you have a linksys/cisco wifi router?

reason i asked, and you can search my posts here, i had similar issues.

4G? speedtest.net reports great upload and download speeds.

wifi? less than 1 Mbps. and it isnt the phone cause within a week, i went back to my local ATT store and the manager there was great in helping swap out to a new phone.

so as soon as came home, sure enough, same crappy speeds. so i have a older router running wifi N and booted that up.

it was like night and day.

so i took the linksys router and returned it to factory defaults. i tested my phone again. same thing.

so now i run 2 diff wifi routers. no biggie to me since the one that works fine with my
S3 i keep as wifi N only so speeds dont degrade when a G or even a B device connects to it and drags everything down...

so my advice is try a diff wifi spot. check with neighbor or if you have an older one try that also...

No, its actually a brand new Netgear N600 Router.
And did your actually slow down everything on your network?
Although I did a factory reset of my router, and its been pretty good so far. Just hoping it stays that way.
