Phone charger port burnt?

I plugged my phone in (2017) model around 10 P.M. to wake up at 5:30 to unplug it. I was about to unplug it to notice a burning smell and my phone was easily over 100 degrees F. I unplugged it and the charger from the wall and took the case off. The charger which came with the phone was scorched and my phone charger port burnt beyond any repair. The case was burnt too but I don't mind. I 'm just curious as to why because I used the proper charger that came with the phone yet it destroyed my phone. Any ideas as to why?

Thanks!

Actually I forgot to add one detail, when my brother removed the back to it to take the battery and my SD card out, he noticed the board next to the charging port was bubbled up. Thought that might help too.

Sounds like some component in the phone failed catastrophically, and burned-up. Repair or replacement required. Is it still under Samsung warranty?

What actually failed and burned, could have been a semiconductor, capacitor, diode, resistor, etc.

I had a new Nokia e71 Symbian phone fail in a similar manner once, and it wasn't even charging. It suddenly became extremely hot and had the fishy stink of burning electronics. As I'd only just had it a week, I returned it for replacement.
