Phone Contact Issues

I have a strange issue with contacts on my phone. Some of my contacts are missing and some that remain contain info., ex. email addresses, from the missing contacts. All the contact, and contact into, is on Gmail and also under the People app. on my tablet.

I tried to force a contact resync, but it did not fix the issue.

I can only see these options:

1. import the contacts on phone and hope that this will not damage the contact info. on Google.
2. Hard Reset my phone and start from scratch.

Other ideas of suggestions?

Are the contacts screwed up only on your phone, or on Google Contacts too?

If only on your phone, take your phone offline (airplane mode) and delete all your contacts. Then go back on line and sync your contacts.
