Phone contacts for google pixel (in phone)

I recently moved from a Galaxy S4 to a Google Pixel.
So say in my contacts I had a Bob Clapp who had a cell phone and home number. In my Galaxy I could enter the first few digits (2527) and Bob Clapp would come up. If I selected it I could then select either mobile or home.

In my google pixel, when Bob Clapp (or whoever) comes up, often there is not a choice of numbers, and only one is available. If I want the other I have to go to the CONTACTS app and search.

Anybody know why this is, or what I can do to get it to behave like the previous?

Open up the contact you want to be able to select. Look in the upper right hand corner for the three dots and press. Then hit "set default" and you'll get the screen where you can choose which number you want to be the default.

It is quite possible you had multiple listings for Bob and by searching using the number would only find the contact listing there. And it's my understanding that if there is only one number in the contact it will immediately dial it.

See if you can merge the contacts so you have multiple phone numbers under the same contact name.
