Help Phone contacts merging with e-mail contacts

I just got a Pantech Breakout and transferred my old phone's contacts using Backup Assistant. Then I set up my Gmail account on the phone. Then I went into my contacts, and it includes both the contacts from my old phone and my Gmail contacts.

I've never managed my Gmail contacts, and apparently it saves every e-mail address I've ever received an e-mail from. So now I have a huge amount of contacts in my phone, most of which are from notifications, spam, and things I don't even recognize.

Is there a way to keep my Gmail contacts out of my regular phone contacts? Thanks.

In Accounts and Sync, then your Gmail account and turn off Contacts Sync. I dont think that will remove the contacts already added through.. Then you will have to delete all the contacts from your phone, and run Backup Assistant again..

I would, however, check Back Up assistant on the Verizon webpage, because if it has been ran since your gmail contacts were merged, they might be in there now as well.. if they are, it might be easier to just turn off Contacts Sync, edit out all the Contacts you don't want from backup Assistant, then run it again..

Personally, I just made my own "Group" of only my most used Contacts and access it, instead of All Contacts. Best of both worlds..
