Help Phone cover affects ringing

Hello. when my phone receives a call while its cover is closed, it only vibrates and doesn't ring, but if i remove the cover and call, it rings normally. i tried tinkering with the sound and notification settings but to no avail. any help would be appreciated, thanks.

a cover could malfunction? i thought its just a piece of plastic with a magnet...

The plastic could be covering areas it shouldn't.
Also the magnet may be interfering with the calls

It's probably something you can change in Settings>Sounds.

If the magnet is even slightly misaligned, it could make the phone think it's flipped over (to silence incoming rings) when it's not. If the cover touches a volume button where it shouldn't, then it could easily set the volume to mute. If taking it out of the case fixes it, the case is the problem. They are cheap enough ... get another (better) one.

If you have any "pocket detection" option in your ringer settings that could also be confused by a cover.
