Help Phone Dialer Nearby Places Search Not Working

I was looking at the new features of kitkat and apperantly the Nexus 5 can look up a phone number of a place in the phone dialer (if I were to type in pizza, it should come up with pizza places nearby and their phone numbers). This feature isn't working for me. Is it because I don't have a google+ profile, or is it because I rooted my phone and removed apps I don't use (like google plus and google music), or is this feature not working (yet)?

Thanks.

I think you may have got it backwards. At this this is the way I understand it...

If a number calls YOU that isn't in your phone book, Google will do a quick search online for the number and if its a business, the business name will display on your caller ID

I thought it did both. There is a caller ID setting, which to me sounds like it looks up the names of places that aren't in your contacts.
Then there is the nearby places settings which allows you to look up places.

Maybe I'm wrong though.

I'm pretty sure I do have location on. If I got to settings -> location, it says location services are turned on. Perhaps Google Now isn't fully working in Canada yet?

Switch your language to 'English (United States)' and it might work.

It doesn't work for me under 'English (UK)' but when I switch to US it does.

Why these features need to be restricted for English based languages other than US is beyond me.

I'm in the UK and if I type Pizza into the dialer I get local Pizza restaurants/take outs.

I do have Google Now set to English US though, which you also need for the "OK Google" function to work.

That was that problem. I switched my language to English US and all is working now.

Thanks.
