Help Phone is buggy as crap...

jb112

Newbie
Could'nt really search my issue. So, I am getting a warning that says...

" Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped."

Also, my phone is hit or miss. I'll try to get online with Wifi and it says there is no secure connection, but I am getting the full bloom on the graph. Then, next time it jumps right on.

This thing does stuff off the wall too. I have done the battery pull thing. I am running the stock browser.... Oh, recently put the google keyboard on here, because when I was on facebook or another website trying to make posts, swype would run all the words together and capitalize stuff at random. Don't even begin to know what is up with that. Would love to just run swype and ditch the other, but I need it to work. Okay, so that should cover it for now... I am about pissed with this thing... Oh, Razr Maxx

Any help or steps to clean this thing up and kill the bugs is greatly appreciated.

Yes unrooted. I actually forgot my login info here because this phone has been so good. If I didn't mind going through the process of taking everything down from my phone, I would do a full reset. But you know, I shouldn't have to. NOT ONE of my friends with an Iphone have ever had to do anything like that. Just makes me mad that this phone was the best ever, now all of a sudden, it's like a cat. Wakes up when it wants, does things at it's own pace, and does what ever it wants to. I mean, for the love of god, yesterday... I couldn't even get the play store to open up.

I hate to be cynical, but welcome to the world of technology.

I had an issue out of the blue with my RM where suddenly it would work perfectly for about 10 minutes, then go to a black screen and apps would refuse to run. I couldn't even get to most of my apps since the launcher was effectively gone, but even trying to run off the notification bar didn't work. I could restart the phone easily enough...and then I'd have it functional for another 10 minutes.

In the end I FDR'ed because I couldn't come up with any better idea. Happily that solved the problem, and my data loss was minimal since I use Titanium Backup.

Then there's my laptop, which at one point inexplicably started giving me some delightful error messages and wouldn't even let me access an admin-level command prompt. Had to do a refresh of the OS, losing all programs I'd downloaded in the process.

All I can say is that sometimes stuff like this happens, and all you can really do is keep regular backups around.

I hope you're able to find a solution short of needing to do a reset, but...sometimes that's what's necessary. Best of luck to you either way!

It is a simple truth and it is inescapable ... whenever you do an Android major upgrade like Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich or Ice Cream Sandwich to Jelly Bean the first thing you should do after the upgrade is a Factory Data Reset.

If you don't do it it will give the appearance of working correctly for hours, days, weeks, or months and then all hell will break loose when you'd rather be doing something else you are forced to do a Factory Data Reset.

I've done four for updates and testing. Each one is a little easier than the last. You get to discard junk you never got around to discarding before and you get to try some new things.

If you do periodic updates and Factory Data Resets then you will have your data backed up so you can restore it (your way). Guess what ... if your phone is lost or stolen you're going to want to restore the data also so you will be prepared for that.

If you have done a Factory Data Reset after the update, are on Jelly Bean, and it just went nuts on you then the approach is to do a soft reset (AKA battery pull) and if that doesn't solve it clear the cache and if that doesn't solve it come up in Safe Mode (disabling all the apps you added without uninstalling them) and if that solves it you know you have a bad app.

Thanks for the replies, and I know, it's the price you pay for the freedoms that the Android platform offers.
Laptops?! Don't get me started... on my third Toshiba Satellite in 8 months because all of a sudden the other two decided that I did not have a operating system present... lol.

In all seriousness, will it help to clear the cache? IF so, what does that do... I mean, do I lose app info and progress (games), or is it just passwords and stuff...

As for the update, I guess I was one of the first to get mine, because I have been running this for about a year or so without issue until last week...

Did you do a Factory Data Reset after installing the update?

I honestly can't remember. I know it took forever to get it up and running, so quite possibly. I remember uploading all of my contacts from backup... that I do remember because I went through and was like, do I want to keep this $(&! head in here... when was the last time I even heard from so and so... oh, yeah, this guy talks too long... that kind of thing...

Programs store temporary data in the cache partition so they can speed up processing when you return to them. It can become corrupted over time.

Wiping the cache partition should only delete temporary data.

(Sitting here I just wiped my cache partition.)

the only thing i can recommend is clearing data from the process that's causing problems.

go into settings->apps->*app* and clear the cache and the data. you'll lose the info from it, but it may cause it to behave normally again. do it on any apps that are causing problems, and anything you think might be related to it. don't randomly clear game data if you're having wifi issues, for example, but if your cell network isn't working, clearing communications stuff (bluetooth, wifi, cell) wouldn't hurt. you'll have to reenter SOME data, but you'll save some as well.

other than that, a factory data reset is the route to take, and is always recommended when upgrading the OS.

it's up to you if you want to salvage some of your data, or go whole hog and just start over.
