Phone Locked Up While Saving Video!

My phone locked up as soon as I tried to end a video recording. The file didn't show up in Gallery at first, but after a few hours, it did, but it won't open. I tried opening it on my laptop, too, to no avail.

Is there any hope for saving it? It's pretty important. Phone is Moto Atrix HD.

Also, it does show in the details that it is an MP4 file with a normal file size, not 0.

File type in the name (.mp4 in this case) has nothing to do with the data format in the file. It's usually determined before the file is opened to write to.

Same with file size. You can open a file, allocat a few GB to it, close it and have nothing written to it.

Copy the file to the computer, then analyze it using a hex editor. See if it looks like an mp4 file. (You may have to spend some time learning what an mp4 file format looks like.) At very worst, you'll have to just delete the file and forget about it.

Next time, before using an app for something critical, use it for non-critical stuff. Make a recording of switching home screens, or of you walking down the block, or whatever the app is supposed to do. Then increase the size of the file you're saving until you can save one as large as the critical one you'll need. Would you take a car out of the showroom and start a cross country race without even taking it for a spin around the block?

It was not a planned thing. A situation started happening, and I grabbed my phone to start recording. It's a legal issue right now. So I really need the video. :/

You should be able to retrieve the file via your computer.

Were you using an app or the stock video recorder? If it was an app, then email the developer for some help. If it was stock, check out the Atrix HD user guide on motorola.com. there is also an Atrix HD forum there that may be helpful.

It really wasn't an issue specific to my phone make and model. LOL That's why I originally posted this in the generic section for media related issues on here. I did finally get it fixed. I found a link to a free trial for a program that repairs videos. It only repairs 50% of the video, though. I had to force the file size to double so that it would repair the entire video. Pretty tricky stuff I had never done before. ;)

This is all related to the father who got arrested trying to pick his kids up from school last month. It was all over the news.
