phone locks when using Skype

I have a Verizon Galaxy Note 2. Whilephonekype, my screen goes blank and my phone locks up when I receive a phone call on my verizon number.

I can find no other way to restore the phone without taking the battery out.

I could use some advice or help on this situation.
