Help phone looses downloads docs and pix

Super annoying
My note 5 and my wifes note 3 will from time to delete on its own pictures and or documents we have downloaded,

Not all of them and im not sure how it picks which ones,

How do i fix this as i am loosing docs and pix i need, and snice there is no warning i would have to back up files daily, not practical

Sounds like it could be a dodgy sd card..

I'd also recommend syncing pictures to Google photos... And syncing docs to Google drive/Dropbox /one drive etc

Its stored on the phone, not a card,
And only effects downloads not pix we take,

While backing up is always a good idea it doesnt help with the reason for the problem,
