Phone not correct version, but is?

An app states phone requires Android 4.1.1. Phone info states os is 4.1.1. But the app is listed in Google play as not compatible with your phone.
What "other" things prevent an app from working in a phone?

You can try and "force feed" the app to your phone as I like to say, by downloading the apk on your pc and then passing it over to the phone and installing it. Nine times out of ten it works if not ten out of ten, lol.

Then I must have the 10 out of 10, no go. I have tried that and I still get the parse error when attempting install.

The parse error generally has to do with a corrupted .apk instead of a compatibility issue. What app are you trying to install?

I thought of that problem and have downloaded the program from more than one site. The app is "DJI Vision" for camera control of your quad copter. No problem with my Huawei android 4.1.1 phone just this "other" phone. I almost have a thought the "fly by night" company I bought it from has found a way to display 4.1.1 for this phone. The manual states it is a 2.3 android.

I was able to successfully install the app from the alternative download link listed by the developer: http://resource.dj2006.net/document/DJI_VISION_V1.0.40.apk

I took a peek inside and did confirm that the app requires at least Android 4.0.

<uses-sdk
********android:minSdkVersion="14"
********android:targetSdkVersion="19"/>

In sorry if I missed it, bit what device do you have? Could you perhaps post a screenshot of your Settings > About Phone page?

Depends on the app and what the developer entered in the Play Store. Screen resolution and chipset are obvious ones, but slip up by developer is also possible.

If you've got hold of the apk and it still won't install then likely hardware, unless it depends on particular framework features (e.g. a Samsung app might only work with Touchwiz ROMs).

codesplice,
I was aware of that link to the app. Tried that also without any luck.
.
Hadron,
I is looking like it is a hardware problem and this phone is just not going to work with this app and for the main purpose of why I bought it. At least I did not pay very much for the phone and will list this as a dead issue. Maybe I will donate it to an "old" person(so am I)for use as a 911 only phone.
Thanks to all that listed suggestions on getting this "bad phone" to work.

It may have been updated since release. The UI was completely overhauled as of 4.0, so it won't be hard to tell if it's still running 2.3 or not. How does the task switched appear? Eight static icons, or a scrolling list of screen caps on the right hand side?

Well, uhmmmm, I guess my lack of phone knowledge is going to show. I have been thinking about your question and must admit I don't understand what you asked.

In gingerbread, you hold down the home button and you'll see the icons of the last eight apps you used. For ICS and beyond, they show up much larger and can be swiped away. How you bring it up depends on what the OEM does. Might be a double tap, might be a long press on any number of buttons

On my Huawei Y-300 they come up as large pics of the actual app.
.
On this "odd" phone they come up as same size icons as the rest of the phone.

On the odd phone, do they show up in a 2 x 4 grid near the center of the screen?

And you're telling us that the "about phone" shows it to be running 4.1.1?

Yes, it does.
Model number: J L35H
Android version: 4.1.1

Yeah, it's super simple. Back when I had a rooted Droid, I used to run Bugless Beast on it. Every time there's was an update pushed out by Verizon, we would get nagged on our phones about it until the Dev posted a "fix" that you could download and flash for the expressed purpose of changing that number so Verizon would think we'd already received the update. That would buy both him and the users some time while he took the ROM they were pushing and tweaked it. So, that's likely what happened on the phone you bought. They likely rooted it, and then flashed a file that tells that screen to show 4.1.1 instead of 2.3, while apparently changing nothing else.

It's pretty easy to change the build.prop to reflect whatever Android version they want to display. That is super-shady though. Sorry you got bitten :(

For future reference, this may be worth a read: http://androidforums.com/android-lounge/631594-off-brand-phones-tablets-worth-low-cost.html
So there is a way for rats to rig a phone, interesting.
Good read on off brand phones.
I did not pay much for the phone so if they will not refund, I will not loose much. I only bought it to use with the FPV while flying the quad copter and not having to use my Huawei, which, I like.
.
Thanks for all the information on this "crap phone."
