Help phone not recognising sim imei gone

Lurker
hi my nexus 5 does not recognise my sim and the imei number is not on the phone no more. I have phoned Google and they said they can't understand it and told me to phone LG and they said to phone Google, help what can I do.

What triggered this? Is this a new phone? Or was it working all this time and suddenly the IMEI vanished?

As lunatic59 said, this could happen if the EFS partition got corrupted during a flash - but shouldn't happen if you didn't unlock the bootloader to flash something.

If you are stock, you could try a factory reset (unlikely it will resolve the issue, but no harm) - your phone will be wiped clean, so backup any important data first.

If your Bootloader is unlocked, you could flash the factory images - it may help. Before doing this though, if your phone still has warranty, use that and get LG to fix it.

Hi the phone is as came out of the box,it was a replacement for my wifes phone the first one she lost and as it was insured through bubble they replaced it but I think it is over a year old and we cancelled the insurance with bubble, but it was working and had no knocks or water near it.

Unusual.
Try the easy options first - completely power the phone off and restart it.
If that doesn't solve the problem, try a different SIM to see if it is a faulty SIM
If the SIM is ok, try a factory reset to see if the problem goes away (this will wipe your data of course, so back up whatever you need)

I searched a few places and found some people say that flashing the factory image from Google fixes the missing imei problem. I can't vouch for this, but if you don't have warranty to fix this it's worth a shot.

I hope it works for you @cookie666 . If you've never flashed a factory image before and you get stuck, give us a shout and we can walk you through it. :)
