Hi All.

I'm new here. First post.

I recently bought my LG G2, direct from EE, on contract.
It was an upgrade so i carried my mobile number forward. However, i notice that the handset has a different phone number in the settings.

I have spoked to EE, but they dont know how to correct this. Any ideas?

Welcome!!!

So let me understand this correctly, you purchased a "new" phone and your number was supposed to port to it, but it has a different number? Or is it working on your number but the Settings->About Phone->Status says an incorrect number in the "My Phone Number" field?

I am not familair with EE, so I am not sure about the specific setup, but is it safe to assume this is a GSM SIM based carrier? Did you try doing a factory default with the SIM removed, then insert the SIM boot up

Hi

thanks for a quick first reply.

Yes, i bought a brand new phone from the EE shop. It works correctly on my ported number, as it did right from day one.

But, yes, it is the status/settings that shows the incorrect number.
I havent yet tried doing a reset; i would like to try avoiding going through that process, to avoid all the backing up.

I would go through the reset process, if you take it to your carrier that will likely be step anyway. If you have the international model, you should have LG Backup which makes the process much easier.

I'm on EE too and mine also still shows the wrong number. A friend told me that because I was going from Orange to EE the sim would still show the original number for the sim before my number is ported over.

But's been like about 5 or 6 months now and the number still shows incorrectly in settings -> about phone -> status

Also, i fired up hangouts once to see what it was like and it had the original number there too when I was asked if I want to use that number for my sms (or something like that)

Yep, my phone does this too. I have a Galaxy Nexus at the moment but it still shows the old number that the sim card originally had before the number was ported over. I don't believe it's anything wrong with the phone, it's just reading the number that was encoded on the sim card.

My wife has moved from her old Blackberry to a Samsung S4 mini, so she upgraded her contract and got a replacement micro SIM card for the new phone. O2 moved her old number across OK but the new SIM card's original number was not changed. Googled and found that the SIM card number is actually optional, but Android hasn't gained the ability to edit it yet. Seeing the wrong number on the SIM card can confuse some apps, so Android needs to catch up here.

The method (as described elsewhere on the web):
Moved her new SIM card into the old Blackberry (with a SIM card adapter), selected Options -> Advanced Options -> SIM Card, and edited the number there. Then moved the SIM card back to the new phone and it showed the right number in the About Phone section. Simple ... on a Blackberry. :o

It worked for me....Thanks
1>Put that SIM in a blackberry phone(you can borrow from a friend if you dont have)
2>Go to Security and Privacy
3>Select SIM Card
4>Edit Phone Number
5>After editing put your SIM back in your phone
(to confirm type *#*#4636#*#* on your phone..goto phone information..Phone number:**********)
