When i try to edit the files on my SD card, "msiexec.exe-write protection error" - this appears, and i am also unable to format it. When i insert it on my phone, it says damaged sd card. Ive already tried regedit and command prompt to try to remove the write protection, but it cant seem to fix my SD card T_T please help me, i have already backed everything up but i have to use all my school files through my phone and my phone cant read it T_T

Assume the SD card is in a holder, and that holder does NOT have the "LOCK" turned ON?

If the Winders computer is complaining, you have to do what I did yesterday...
throw that SD chip in the trash and go get a new one.

mine got so hot, you could smell it, and it burnt my finger tips when I pulled it out of the PC.

and just read the post that jumped in front of me, yes, if you made it for Internal Storage it is a goner.
BUT, I don't think that is the case as you say the PC copied all the files off of it?

Sounds like it's broke. It happens. Did you format the card as internal storage?
i wasn't able to since nothing comes up whenever i insert the card. but when i remove it, it says damaged SD card and gives me an option to reformat it. But i'll try again T_T. Thank you for your help

im using an OTG reader, and it has no switch. My PC can still read and copy all my files. The only problem is that my phone doesnt read it. So when i try to reformat it on the PC, i cant cause it's write protected. Thank u for helping :)

i was able to reformat it as internal storage. I removed it then selected reformat, then inserted it again, so it had no choice but to reformat it. my phone can finally read it, but how come the available space is now zero (0)? T_T thank you so much for your help

Sounds like your micro-SD has failed. Going read-only is something they can sometimes do when they are failing. Your phone formatted it, but it's showing zero storage, that's definitely wrong. Strongly suggest you replace it with a new one.

How long have you had it? Micro-SDs like all flash storage devices can and do eventually wear out. Although they can fail at any time.

I only had it for 2 or 3 months :'( But my PC can still read and copy its contents. i was already able to remove the write protection (i think), the problem now is that if i reformat it, it says "windows unable to complete format" and if i delete my files manually, they get deleted but after a few minutes, they're back :'(

do you have access to a Linux computer?
try formatting it with that.....
if that fails, buy a new SD card and move on with your life...

I would do that anyway, after what you have been through, no way would I trust that SD card with any more important than Today's newspaper.
