Phone screen doesn't detect touch properly on some parts of the screen

Got a friend with a his phone, it's not responding sometimes on some areas of the screen. I tried clearing system cache, no change. He says he never dropped the phone, it started happening last night. Any help would be appreciated

Sounds like it could be a faulty touch-screen. Professional repair required to replace it. Although check on the off-chance it's not just a wayward screen-protector causing it.

Checked the screen guard, after removing it, there was a sticky layer on the screen. I removed that and still no change...

Could it also be a software issue? Will something like a factory reset help?

Replacing the screen is expensive here...
