Help Phone screen turning on

I thought that having my notifications on the watch would help my battery life on the phone. Thing is the screen completely turns on when ever I get a notification. I have a droid turbo and moto 360.
 
There is an option in the wear app (phone) to mute notifications on the phone when connected to Wear. Do you have that turned on?
