Phone Slow

I'm not sure what has updated on my LG Stylo Note5 in the last 48 hours but my phone has almost slowed to a crawl.
I've cleared cache, did smart clean for files and memory. Turned off and on and removed and reinserted sim. Android operating system.
Anyone else having this trouble? It's not one particular app either. It's the whole system.

Did you install anything new recently? That usually a good place to start when phones start having issues. Are there any pending updates? Especially a system update/upgrade can bog a phone down. Also, check for space. Running out of space will cause problems.

Ok. I'll check those. The new system update from android will not be available for these older phones until December.

Also check which apps are hogging battery and / or memory usage. These are usually good indicators of which apps are hogging the system.

Find them and destroy them...

Ditch that cleaning app if it turns out to have ads, or run all the time.

Likewise, dump any security type (antivirus/antimalware) apps that are on the device.

Any app that runs constantly, especially those with ads, are going to slow a device up somewhat.

The capabilities of your device will dictate how much effect these apps have on overall performance.

The vast majority of cleaning apps and security apps are mearly ways to access your information and to feed ads to you.

There are few, very few alternatives.

The good news is that your device does not need any type of security app.

Period.

As for the cleaners, you only need one if you are like me- running low end devices at their maximum capabilities, and clogging them up with junk that slows the device before the system or the apps have a chance to delete it.

I know of only one ad free cleaner that does exactly what it says it will do, and the really neat thing is that the app description tells you exactly what any cleaner app is actually capable of.

Any app that claims that it is able to do more is lying to you, and therefore should not be trusted.

Be sure to read all the description, and then enter the settings and read everything there, as well.

Be sure to analyze what it wants to clean before you give it the go ahead, as it could (possibly) want to clean something that you want to keep (this is common among good cleaners, so it is always better to be safe than sorry).

If nothing else, read the description, and use it against what other cleaner apps claim to do.

Try restarting your phone into its Safe Mode and see if this makes any improvement.

When running in Safe Mode, only the base Android operating system gets loaded into memory during the startup process. Any third-party apps or services that typically get preloaded too are bypassed so this is a good way to at least check if something you've installed recently is causing the problem. Also keep in mind that since no apps are getting preloaded like they normally do, when you start up different apps in a Safe Mode there will often be a lag in their startup time. (...just so you can distinguish the difference between how responsive the Android OS will be vs. an app's initial loading up time.)
If you do notice there's a significant different on how your phone is running while in Safe Mode, than that would indicate there's a problem with some third-party app. You still need to determine just which one. If you look in your Settings >> Battery menu, is there any app listed there showing a recent increase in its power usage that corresponds with the approximate time when this problem started occurring?

Well, what a coincidence. As we spoke my 'older' phone (launched mid 2019) got it's OS 10 update. And other remaining models should be receiving theirs by December 2020. Now I'll just be anxiously awaiting the OS11 that launched recently. Just not for budget model phones.
Seriously, it's much better. And I do like the features of this model.
Just as a side note I don't have many apps running in background, idle apps are automatically dealt with after a certain length of time and I do a Smart Clean regularly. Thanks for allthe help and suggestions.
