Phone slows WAY down when plugged into USB

I plug the phone up to the car charger and it slows way down!

Also, my two usb options are Media and storage - how can you just charge?

btw, I have a Samsung Charge running Eclipse 2.0 - this problem existed previously.

A phone that's only seeing the power bus shouldn't need to be set any different way. Since your phone has been doing this all along, maybe it was designed to use up a lot of CPU cycles trying to make a USB data connection. Sort of ironic for a product called "Charge".

Another thing that might affect things is the USB power supply. These days there are a lot of cheap USB adapters on the market. At prices like $5 for a dual outlet cigar plug device it's unlikely that it includes voltage regulation or supports high current charging. Most USB devices that I've tried on these cheap things either ignore them or take what they can. But if the voltage is just right it may be possible to create a race condition where the phone detects a charge voltage, switches to charge mode, sees a voltage drop caused by the load on the circuit and switches out of charge mode, sees a charge voltage... So forth and so on.

If you're using a good, rated (the good ones say "1A" or "2A" in the manual) power adapter, then it's probably a fault inside the phone. It might be fixable by a software update. If enough others are having the same problem, there might be a patch available.
