Help Phone thinks a USB device is connected when it isn't, preventing charging

Hi,

Recently, I've been hit with a problem. My phone sometimes freezes and it seems like an advertisement pops up, however, the screen just goes black and two "x" appear in the corners as if the thing can be closed but it closes itself. This then prevents my phone from charging.

I've downloaded an app for notification history and found out that this is a System notification that says a USB device has been attached/unplugged, and for some reason, when I try to charge my phone after this happens, it just doesn't work. I normally get around it by resetting my phone a few times until it catches on, as it usually does, however, today, I wasn't able to do it and now my phone is dead. I can still switch it on but it dies after a few seconds due to no battery.

Does anyone know how to fix this? It is highly frustrating and I don't know what to do.

I've tried using multiple cables and charging methods (normal charger, USB port from PC)

Sounds like you may have a bad USB port.. have you tried wireless charging? I believe all Samsung S models have wireless charging built-in starting with the S6. That may be your only way to charge for the moment unless you get the device repaired

That was my go to option. Family member suggested that I put some alcohol on a cotton ear-bud and clean out the USB port, and then I plugged it into a charger without a removable USB cable and its somehow charging. I'm not sure if the cleaning fixed it or the charger but it's charging.
