Phone tracking app suggestions

Hello everyone I am brand new to the forum and I have joined to ask for an app suggestion. Forgive me if this has been discussed or isn't the right place to post. I am looking for the best app that will allow me and my hunting buddy to track and see each other when we are out in the woods. I want to be able to turn on and off the feature and only allow people a have given permission to see me. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I can't personally vouch for any of these apps but the following apps are highly rated:
Lokki, Hemisphere, & Find My Friends.

Lokki is available for iPhone too.

FYI: That functionality used to be built into Android through Google Maps, and was called "Latitude". (It was great because I could EASILY check to make sure that my kids were safely at school or a friends house or something if they forgot to check in.) Unfortunately Google killed Latitude, and kinda replaced it with Google+. I haven't tried Google+ because it seems to include a whole lot more social networking bloat that I have zero interest in.

Thanks for reply RazzMaTazz, I will look into the apps you suggested. The goal is to be able to find each other and mark routes and pin specific spots. It would be nice to mark the truck and hike through the woods with the piece of mind I should be able to use the gps on my phone to get back to the truck.

I'm sure you'd like to do that nicely in one app. I don't know if you can mark a location with any of the above apps, but if not, then you can save a locations as "Favorites" in Google Maps and in Waze (my favorite GPS app due to its real-time traffic knowledge and rerouting). In both apps, you open them up and it shows you a blue navigation arrow of where you are on the map. In both apps you long-press the location (say when you park your truck) and a balloon appears. Then inside the balloon...
* In Waze, tap the "circle-i" symbol and hit "Add" to add it to your favorites along with a name for that location.
* In Google Maps, tap the ">" symbol and then tap the empty star in the upper-right corner to create a favorite.

If you get a chance, I'd be interested to know which app you choose and why.

I am be no means savvy with all these fancy apps and features but I'm not a dullest knife in the kitchen either.

From what I have been able to figure out so far, is I will probably wind up downloading and using onXmaps for the gps mapping features and If my and a friend want to see each other locations on a map I will need to download and use a different app. I haven't looked to hard for the second app so I will let you know which one I decide to go with.

Any other suggestions are welcome and thank you for your replies.

Another thing that would be nice to be able to accomplish is, syncing the Google earth I have been using on my home computer with my Galaxy s5. This would be awesome to customize the maps on my home computer and use them in real time on my phone with its gps. I couldn't find a way to do this either and have been told it doesn't work like that, which I don't get due to the fact that I sign into Google maps with the same Google account on both devices?
