NO DIAL TONE: Unplug fax machine, answering machine, and phones from all outlets and phone jacks. Wait a few minutes, and then plug each phone in one by one. Check for a dial tone after you plug in each device.

I guess my confusion is with the OP's post...I would assume an issue with something that needs a dialtone? If so, it has nothing to do with the channel this thread is in but we can move it no prob :D
Please clarify, at least to me, what you are talking about @emmamilla ;)

Now hold on here a minute, we (my workplace) still have and use a fax machine; albeit a unit combined with a copier/scanner but still. You guys make it sound like it went out with 8-track tapes :D
I always think of the fax as an example of how short-lived technology can be.

I owned a fax/modem in the early 90s, but that went with the PC it was installed in. Our multifunction printers/scanners/copiers at work no longer have fax functions, I think we got rid of the fax machine a few years ago, and I know I haven't sent or received one this decade, though it's possible I have used one this century...

I can't actually see how the original post is related to Android. It seems to be about identifying problems in a landline.
