Help Phone updates

So, my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 recently received an update. Naturally i got all excited that atlast i might be getting the 5.0.1 lollipop but the weird thing is after the update, when i checked my device, it was still having the same 4.4.2 version. I mean what just happened? Phone got updated. Knox got updated. But i still had the 4.4.2 version.

From a quick web search (and a scan of our Note 2 forum) I can't see any sign that Lollipop has been released for the Note 2.

But you can get system updates without changing the OS version. You said yourself that Knox got updated, and the post implies that you saw other updates, so that's what the update was. System updates can be released to fix bugs, improve performance, improve security or (if you are unlucky and bought the phone through a carrier) just to add more bloatware. But while most of those things will change the build number, none of them necessarily requires a change in the OS version.
