Help Phone won't find update wen I know there is 1

Hi there,

A friend mentioned to me that there is a new version of android so I go to check for update and it says no update available, my friend has the s3 and he updated his the same way and it work, why is this???

With the almost zero information you have given, its almost impossible to say.

However, based on the assumption you have a GSM international:

1) Different Carriers have branded / non branded devices. A non-carrier branded device get their updates directly from Samsung. Carrier branded devices, the updates must go to the carrier first. This means more testing and delays,

2) Even with unbranded devices, not every single device can be udpated at the same time. This is too much of an overhead to the mobile networks and the updater system. It is sent out in batches.

Seriously, you haven't even said what carrier you're on. For instance, Verizon will have an update on replacement phones but they haven't yet started OTA yet.

Secondly, when OTA updates are rolled out, they are staged. 100 at a time, wait to see if there are any problems, then a 1000, and so on. Not just to look for problems but to load balance the system. If everyone was getting OTA at the same time, it would bring the entire network to a crawl.

So when you say you "know" there is an update, you actually have no clue and I think this is why you haven't gotten loads of help in this thread.

Two dozen members who've read this are thinking the same thing but didn't find it worth their time to post.

XXALF6 is well old. A June update. There have been 3 updates since. Carriers such as 3UK are still on LF6 though.

Let's not get snarky people. Try and remember how frustrating it can be to be champing at the bit for a new update and not see it when others have already received it.

That said, Adzykorn, try and realize that this is a user to user support site. People have other aspects of their time that may keep them from replying right away. In everything patience is a virtue.
