Help Phone won't play media sound, but phone sounds are fine.

For some reason, suddenly no media files played on my phone make any sound even though the volume is up and phone sounds (including ringtones) play just fine.

Whenever I try to play any kind of media... MP3 files, video files... even a shopping list app I use... no longer make any sound. I've tried different apps, but it makes no difference. The media players all appear to be working fine. MP3 player's counters are moving, and video plays but without sound.

I did not install anything new recently including any updates. How do I fix this? TIA

PS: Android 7.0.

Try using vlc video player from the play store
Also you need to have your media sound all the way up.
Try installing volume control from the play store also

Thanks for the reply.

As stated, I have tried different media players. Even a Shopping List app I use has stopped making sound. A different media player would not resolve that.

And my volume is "all the way up". As stated, normal phone sounds (including ringtones) all work properly.

All media was working just fine only until recently.

Unlikely. There is no "hardware" reason why normal phone sounds & ringtones would play but sounds played from apps do not.

The Shopping list app beeps when I turn the mic on to speak/enter a new item.

I checked my phone's "Advanced" sound settings and discovered the "Media" slider was at zero. I don't know how that happened (or that there was a separate "Media" slider at all), but Media sounds are working once again.

Thanks.
