Phonebook (Contacts) uses each number in a person's contact to make a separate entry

On my Audi Q5 with MMI3, when I pair my Android phone with bluetooth, it imports the phonebook contact list. Randomly, it either imports each person as one entry with all their subnumbers included...the way it should work OR it treats each phone number in each contact as a separate contact. So if John Smith has mobile, home, and business numbers, he shows up three times, This means the voice dial doesn't work (where you say, dial John Smith, cell). If I say John Smith, it brings up all three names...each with a mobile phone symbol.. and I have to pick randomly.

I cannot figure out what spurs it to do it right vs wrong. When it comes up wrong and I re-pair..changing nothing, it may or may not come up right. It is seemingly random.

I am at my wits end. Any thoughts or suggestions? I don't know if this is an Audi issue or an Android issue.

I currently have a Note 3. My S3 did it a few times, then never again. My S2 did it all the time and I couldn't fix it.

I suspect you are right...but they are a brick wall. They say they have no complaints of that and have no answer for me. I was curious if any other android users had run into this and if they had a solution. Again, the issue is much worse with the Note 3 than the S3 so there must be some difference in the bluetooth...possibly something I could tweek. I was hoping there was an app that could control the contact output.

thx
