Help Photo Recovery Off Lost Phone

partlowr

Lurker
I recently lost my Samsung Galaxy S6. I had hundreds of family photos on that camera. I thought I had checked the box on the settings to save photos to my gmail account. When I got my new replacement phone this week and went through the set up process none of my old photos appeared on my new device. It recovered all of my contacts and some other info but none of my photos. Is there any hope of me recovering those photos?

Thanks

Check Google Photos, if you signed in with Gmail that's probably where they are. Hopefully. Install the app if it's not on your phone already, or just check online at photos.google.com

I didn't have that app installed, I actually knew nothing about it before a couple days ago. Photos were just stored in my regualar Gallery.

If you saw, and checked, such an option then the only thing I can think of is Photos. There is nowhere else for them to go unless Samsung has something? You'd know if you had a Dropbox or something, and that shouldn't be your Google signon anyway. Did you check Google Photos?

Thanks everyone, I figured there were gone but figured it could not hurt asking some of you that are far more knowledgeable about this platform and these devices than me. Now that I know about Google photos I will make sure all future photos are backed up there.

If you had Dropbox or OneDrive on your old phone (Samsung phones usually ship with one or the other) , it should ask you to activate photo upload when you first open the app. Did you activate? If you did, at least some of your photos should be in your Dropbox or OneDrive account.

Backing up images from the camera was available long before Photos. Sometimes it was on by default. Just to be sure, you did actually log into your gmail account on a PC and check if there are any photos stored there?
