Photo Syncing on Mac OSX

(I'm using snow leopard, this is not tested on any other OS)

I wanted a semi-automatic way to sync pictures from my Droid to my Mac, and from my photo library to my Droid. I have a folder set up on my Macbook Pro that mirrors all my full sized pictures from the last 4 years but in a compressed 800px form. (I have a separate application which, when I drag a folder onto it, it copies files to my regular folder, then resizes and compresses them and moves them to the phone folder, adding the prefix "2010 " to the folder name to keep things organized.)

So, I set up an Automator program to do this for me. What it does is copies files (not overwriting old files, to save time) to my Droid's SD card from my "Pictures for Phone" folder (which is the folder containing resized pictures). Then, it copies new files from my Droid's camera folder, so I have a backup and quick access to the pictures/videos taken on my phone.

Combined with the 2.1 Gallery, I have a nice set of folders by year and event which are easy to scroll through and view. It just takes some time for the Gallery to index and create previews for a large number of files.

It's simple and could maybe have better implementation, but I've used it a few times now and it seems to be pretty bulletproof. I don't see another simple option for people who don't use iPhoto.

So: unzip, open Automator, edit the folder paths as necessary, save, then double click on "sync phone pictures," and check the results. For me, this results in two folders on my mac: Pictures from phone, and Pictures for phone. On my droid, there are two folders: /pictures (with about 30 different folders from my mac) and /DCIM/camera (cameraphone pics and vids). The gallery shows 30+ folders of pictures, neatly organized with previews.

I can't be responsible for anything that gets messed up as a result of this action (though I doubt something would,) but back up just in case. I just put this up here in the hopes that someone else would find it useful. I'm still figuring things out so if you see a way to make things run more smoothly, post it up.
