There are many ways to back them up--but if you don't trust Google, you're most likely not going to trust other cloud storage companies, right? So skip them!
Do you have a computer? You can save your photos on its hard drive(s).
Or how about a USB thumb drive? I've never actually used one with a phone, but I'm sure that's doable.
If you tell us why you don't trust Google, maybe we can recommend some other cloud storage that you would trust. Just bear in mind that Google probably already knows everything about you that you're worried about, what with using an Android phone, having a Google account, and everything.
