Photos keep stopping

Hi, the photos app keep stopping when I scroll the WhatsApp album. Also there are a blank photo boxes which I can not delete. When I open them the circle keeps on rotating as if trying to download something. It asks to share feedback on crashing which I have sent. This is extremely frustrating.

The Photos app is Google's and it will sync with your Google account in the cloud. It seems to be having trouble syncing which is what the blank boxes are all about. I don't use WhatsApp, but I would guess something in that album is conflicting with Photos, causing it to crash.

Try going to settings>apps>photos and clearing the cache and then rebooting the phone. If you don't use photos at all you could disable it, but you might lose your cloud sync, which I wouldn't recommend.

Thanks. Turning sync on or off does not help. It is still the same behaviour (blank tiles are still there).
Whatsapp is a very popular app, atleast in India, basicalky a huge user base. I have been using stock android 6.0 and with gallery app for WhatsApp and there has never been a problem.

The only thing I can think of i that whatsapp is somehow blocked from previewing the cloud based images.
