I have the Galaxy S5 with a 64 bit SD card.
I do not use Google photos but am backed up.

When I remove photos from Galley, which I understand is a reflection of MY Files in the device, the photos were deleted from the SD card also.

Is the SD card function to free up pace on the phone?
If so why can'y I isolate them independently so I can delete from the device, i.e., Gallery or My Files, yet remain on the card?

Verify from the Gallery where the photos really are, you can usually see that through a details view by long pressing a photo.

Deleting from the Gallery will follow that path for deletion.

I will press as you say and thank you.
I hope I can find way to isolate the photos on that card to make more room in the device.

I looked at details which said storage> ext sd card> photos> Peter.
That appears to say it is on my card.

If so why can'y I isolate them independently so I can delete from the device, i.e., Gallery or My Files, yet remain on the card?

Both My Files and Gallery are simply reading the sdcard and displaying the photos. If you delete them using either app the actual photo is deleted as well. The photos displayed aren't moved to the device storage when viewed through either app.

So the photos reside on the card leaving space for the device which is simply reflecting the location being the card?
The way to test in the future is to view details.
If all is true i thank you for the clarification.
